I am a farmer.

Those were the first words I learned in Krzysztof Wróblewski’s Polish class. For three years I embarked on a journey to gain proficiency in what is widely considered to be one of the most difficult languages for native English speakers to adopt. Living in Poland at the time, and working at a Polish company, this knowledge was especially important. For three hours each week, Krzysztof taught us foreigners about the language and culture of our host country. He had his work cut out for him. By the end I grew confident enough to perform life’s most routine and essential activities in Polish: visiting the doctor, ordering food at restaurants, asking and giving directions, asking where to find an item at a store, etc. Despite its reputation as a difficult language, Krzysztof was able to break the language down into digestible lessons that are challenging, yet not so overwhelming as to discourage interest. He knows language inside and out, and owing to his advanced training as a linguist, answers with complete accuracy and without hesitation, any question his students have. Although our lessons often followed those from published textbooks, Krzysztof largely crafted his own teaching materials, mixing his methods and teaching experience alongside those of published works. This worked extremely well, as we learned in greater detail about those fundamentals that were only tersely covered in available textbooks. At the time he also worked with a web developer to transform his own lessons into a more interactive learning experience. This also worked well and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn using his methods. Ultimately, I felt confident enough to approach life in Poland through the eyes and language of the locals. I can’t express enough how well people reacted to my attempts at using the language even though it wasn’t perfect. It was a great feeling and to that I owe Krzysztof. Finally, besides the formal learning environment I really enjoyed chatting with Krzysztof about the idiosyncrasies of language in general, as well as about Polish history and culture. Above all else Krzysztof is a really great person and I wish him well with his future endeavors. I can only recommend his services at the highest level.

On a fun note, ask Krzysztof why people prefer, on a linguistic level, a little alliteration.
